The trail winds through forests and open meadows, gradually gaining altitude. In winter, Dayara transforms into a snow-covered playground, adding excitement and visual drama. Though beginner-friendly, the trek still demands consistent walking and endurance.

ITINERARY

Day 1: Arrive in Barsu from Dehradun

Distance: 180 km | Time: 6-7 hours by road

Arrive early in the morning at Dehradun, the gateway to the Garhwal Himalayas. Our vehicle will depart by 7 AM for Barsu, a charming Himalayan village located near Uttarkashi. The drive takes you along scenic roads with views of rivers, valleys, and Himalayan landscapes. Upon reaching Barsu by late afternoon, check into a pre-arranged guesthouse or homestay. Spend the evening exploring the village, interacting with locals, or taking short walks to acclimatize. Overnight stay in a guesthouse.

Day 2: Trek from Barsu to Barnala (9,884 Feet

Distance: 4 km | Time: 4-5 hours

Begin your trek after a hearty breakfast. The trail from Barsu to Barnala is a gradual ascent, passing through dense forests of oak and rhododendron. The chirping of birds and the scent of the woods create a magical ambiance as you walk through the wilderness. By afternoon, arrive at Barnala, a serene campsite offering stunning views of the surrounding peaks. After lunch, explore the Barnala Tal, a small picturesque lake near the campsite. Overnight stay in tents

Day 3: Trek from Barnala to Dayara Top (12,300 Feet) via Dayara Bugyal (11,600 Feet) and Return to Barnala

Distance: 8 km (round trip) | Time: 6-7 hours

Start your day early with breakfast before embarking on the most scenic leg of the trek. The trail to Dayara Bugyal passes through rolling meadows and dense forests. As you ascend, the landscape opens up to reveal the vast alpine meadows of Dayara Bugyal. In winter, the snow-covered expanse is a sight to behold, while in summer, the lush greenery is equally enchanting.

Continue to Dayara Top, the highest point of the trek, offering panoramic views of the Gangotri, Bandarpoonch, and Srikanth peaks. Spend time capturing photographs and enjoying the serenity of the place. After lunch, descend back to Barnala, where you’ll spend the night in tents

Day 4: Barnala to Barsu and Departure

Distance: 4 km (trek) + 180 km (drive) | Time: 2-3 hours trek + 6-7 hours drive

Wake up early and enjoy a leisurely breakfast before beginning your descent to Barsu. The trail is straightforward and offers beautiful views of the valley below. Upon reaching Barsu, board the vehicle for the return journey to Dehradun. The drive back takes approximately 6-7 hours. You are expected to arrive in Dehradun by evening. Please allow a buffer of 3-4 hours when booking onward travel to accommodate any delays.

PREPARATION GUIDE

Please read carefully before registering

At Boots & Crampons, preparation is not optional. The level of training required depends on the duration, altitude, and technical difficulty of the trek or expedition you are signing up for.

  • This is a beginner-friendly trek and does not require prior trekking or mountaineering experience.
  • You should be reasonably fit, healthy, and comfortable with walking for several hours a day.
  • If you are not regularly active, 1–2 weeks of basic preparation is recommended.
  • Practice walking uphill or climbing stairs, preferably with a light backpack.
  • Build basic cardiovascular endurance—jogging or brisk walking is highly recommended.
  • Focus on leg strength with simple exercises like squats and step-ups.
  • Mental readiness is important—weather, terrain, and plans may change in the mountains.
  • Follow instructions given by the trek leader and support staff at all times.

Proper preparation increases not just your chances of success, but also your safety and enjoyment in the mountains.

THINGS TO PACK

For Your Head:

  • Woolen warm cap to protect against cold winds
  • Balaclava for extra warmth
  • Bandana (can be used as a sweatband or to cover your face from dust)

For Your Feet:

  • 4-5 pairs of regular socks
  • 1-2 pair of thick woolen socks for warmth
  • Trekking boots with ankle support and good grip
  • Extra pair of comfortable sneakers or shoes to wear at the Tea House

For Your Hands:

  • 1-2 pairs of warm inner gloves
  • 1 pair of waterproof gloves to keep your hands dry
  • Hand warmers (optional, but useful in very cold weather)
  • A pair of fleece gloves for extra insulation
